![]() People might not understand it but while Daikatana does use a fork of Quake 2 engine, it also introduces number of changes to extend the capabilities of that engine. IIRC we internally did discuss the possibility of HD textures and came to the conclusion that it would break the game engine without any easy fix in sight. The objective of the 1.3 patch is to fix existing technical issues, get the game in a stable condition and any changes are mainly for improving the gameplay while staying within the parameters of the original design documents.Īny major changes should not break the game or make it more unstable than it already is. But it isn't simply the case that we don't want to do that. I might be able to use these in my custom maps at least. I will download them later and take a look at them. Just how did you came up with 1,4GB HD texture pack for Daikatana? I haven't seen the textures yet. If the developer ever fixes the texture sizing, I'll look into finishing the mod, and release a pak file. The textures are available here to download if anyone wants to mess with them. Even if you fix the transparency issue, the engine still needs to be updated to support HD textures. You might be able to edit the textures, but the pak files require Daikatana editors.Ħ. Speaking of modding tools, you can't use quake 2 tools to mod Daikatana files, since the files are not compatible. Probably best to not include the multiplayer textures in any finished pak, or do that separate.ĥ. Only the trenchboom guy seems to be doing anything, but that's primarily a map editor.Ĥ. The patch guys don't seem to care about updating them. Everything is decades old, and barely works. Somebody needs to either remaster them properly, or delete the transparent textures to use defaults.ģ. Probably needs to be set with color maps, but I stopped caring after finding out the textures don't load properly. Remastering the textures broke transparency, so even if you fix the resolution issue, all the transparency textures need to be "fixed". They don't want to improve the textures, and there are problems with the engine having set texture resolutions instead of resizing.Ģ. Unofficial patch guys are probably not going to help.
